Project Proper
With all the listed materials at hand, the first thing you need to do is to measure your window. If you have a square window, you’d need an inside mount; otherwise, you’d need an outside mount. You’d also need at least a two-inch clearance starting from the shutters to your window or any handles, which may be included in the design, to be able to use an inside mount; otherwise, an outside mount would really be your best and only option.
Okay, on with the task at hand. Measure the height as well as the width of your window at three distinct points. For an inside mount, you may use the biggest measurement to know your shutter size. You have more leeway because you can always trim the outcome with a saw or plane. On the other hand, for an outside mount, you can add to the measurements of the height and the window so that your shutters can give you more coverage, if you wish. You can choose from a number of choices as to the material of the shutters, from aluminium shutters to wood, vinyl, etc.
Hanging strips are only optional for shutters using an inside mount, but for shutters using an outside mount, hanging strips are definitely necessary. These thingies give you the flexibility you need in order to hang your shutters vertically even if your window is going in a different direction. In any case, attach the hanging strips just along the sides of the frame of your window, then hinge all the shutter panels carefully together. Don’t forget to use a spacer between all the shutter panels before you place the hinges; doing so will allow your shutters to open and close with ease.
Then proceed with attaching the hinges to your shutters, and place them in the window. They must have consistent spacing around them. Mark the hinge locations — on the window frame for inside mounts, and on the hanging strips for outside mounts. Get your drill and make pilot holes for the hinge screws. Lastly, attach the shutters to the frame or strip, and admire your newly installed Sunburst shutters.
